We start the journey with a stop to Turda Salt Mine, the world’s deepest underground entertainment park and museum (120m) and continues with the visit of Alba Iulia the biggest citadel in Romania and a symbol of Romanian nationalism. The road will take you to a land of mystery and lords, The Crovin’s Castle in Hunedoara, the last stop of the day.
The largest open-air ethnography exhibit in Europe, the Astra Museum, will charm you with its „living museum” concept that is based on, presenting the traditional folk culture that will transpose you in the past. The tour of the medieval city Sibiu will complete a view of the locals and it will involve you with its aristocratic elegance.
The trip will continue with the visit of the Bran Castle, the dearest house of the second and the beloved queen of the country, Queen Maria, and nest of the popular and well-known Count Dracula. Rasnov fortress, a solid example of medieval defensive construction, will be our next stop, followed by Bears Sanctuary in Zarnesti, the largest sanctuary of this type in Europe. You will have the opportunity to see some of the over 100 saved bears, Romania having the highest number of brown bears in Europe.
If you are passionate about stories of royalty, splendid architecture and history, the next stop it will bring you lots of joy. One of the most modern castles in Europe and the first one on the continent fully supplied by electrical power, Peles Castle, is ready to show you why it’s considered to be one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. The royalty story it will be continued with the visit of Brasov, town that was named “the city of the crown”.
This day is dedicated to three of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Romania and highlights of Transylvania´s Saxon heritage, the fortified churches of Viscri, Saschiz and Sighișoara, one of the most beautiful and authentic small medieval towns in Europe and the only one in Romania that is still inhabited.
What’s the best way to get some relaxing time than tasting a good quality wine accompanied with good and taste food in a traditional saxon house in Richis village. After such a treat is great to have some action also, so a guided tour in Medias the town with one of the best-preserved historical centers in Romania, it will be welcomed.
The day starts with a short introduction to Maramures folk art in Sighetu Marmatiei Ethnographic Park, continuing with The Merry Cemetery of Sapanta, a unique cemetery that exposes the humor and the irony of the Romanians. The day will finish with Sapanta Peri and Barsana Monasteries, traditional wood sanctuaries that are included in UNESCO´s patrimony.
